Lawn Tractor Races

The 4th Annual Cherry Grove Lawn Tractor Races will be held on August 21, 2021!

Whether you’re planning on a flame paint job on your stock mower, doing a pulley swap on your spare racer, or attempting to put a snowmobile engine in something meant to cut grass, the rules and regulations can be found here:

Any driver wishing to enter the race must register with the Cherry Grove Ag Society prior to the race. Come put your mower to the test and see whose lawn tractor is the best!

DRIVER SAFETY RULES:

  1. All race participants must be at least 16 years old. Drivers under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a permission form and be present at sign-in and during the race.
  2. All drivers must wear long pants, a long-sleeved t-shirt, and closed-toed shoes.
  3. All sharp projections such as bolts, sheet metal etc. must be removed or protected. All glass must be removed.
  4. Each participant must wear a roadworthy helmet. Other protective equipment (Goggles, gloves, shin pads) is encouraged. Any participant who chooses not to wear additional gear does so at his/her own risk.
  5. Drivers who are intoxicated will NOT be allowed to race.
  6. Every driver must sign a race waiver discharging the Cherry Grove Recreational and Agricultural Society from liability.
  7. Race organizers will have the final say on whether or not an entrant may race.

Stock Class

  1. The maximum lawn mower size permitted is 28-horsepower
  2. Electrical or pull-start mowers only. No push-start mowers
  3. Only residential lawn mowers will be permitted to race
  4. All mowers must have their stock fuel systems, and an engine that was originally produced for cutting grass.
  5. Modifications to the engine, driveline or fuel system of any kind are not permitted
  6. Any exposed belts or chains must have a guard.
  7. All mowers must have an operational brake system. The driver must be able to stop the mower within a reasonable distance. All mowers must be equipped with an engine safety cut-off switch (or working seat switch).
  8. All lawn mowers must have original hood and rear fenders, as well as original frame (frame may be reinforced). Mowers must have originally been designed and sold commercially to mow lawns.

Modified Class

  1. Electrical or pull-start mowers only. No push-start mowers
  2. Only residential lawn mowers will be permitted to race
  3. All mowers must have an engine that was originally produced for cutting grass. Engine modifications are limited to external parts (flywheels, pulleys, governors, carburators). No internal modifications such as cams, pistons, valves or springs.
  4. Fuel system upgrades can include pumps, carburetors and fuel tank.
  5. Any exposed belts or chains must have a guard.
  6. All mowers must have an operational brake system. The driver must be able to stop the mower within a reasonable distance. All mowers must be equipped with an engine safety cut-off switch (or working seat switch).
  7. All lawn mowers must have original hood and rear fenders, and must have originally been designed and sold commercially to mow lawns.
  8. Frame must be original, although discrete strengthening is allowed. Front and rear axles must use original frame as primary mounting point. No Tubular frames allowed.
  9. Drivetrain must be from a commercially sold lawn tractor and no suspension parts can be added.
  10. Frame height but be at least 6” from level ground, and wheel base is to not exceed 56″
  11. Tires must be Turf rated.
  12. Any wheelie bars must be limited to 18” maximum from the rear tires

Super Modified Class

  1. Any exposed belts or chains must have a guard.
  2. All lawn mowers must have original hood and rear fenders and have the general appearance of a lawn tractor.
  3. Frame height must be minimum 4” from level ground and wheel base must not exceed 64”
  4. Engine may be anything the human mind can fit into a lawn tractor
  5. All mowers must have an operational brake system. The driver must be able to stop the mower within a reasonable distance. All mowers must be equipped with an engine safety cut-off switch (or working seat switch).
  6. All mowers MUST be equipped with an automatic throttle closing device.
  7. Mowers cannot have any suspension.
  8. Tire cleats/spikes/traction modifiers are not permitted.
  9. Brakes may be modified, hydraulic brakes are recommended.
  10. All drivers must wear chest protectors as part of their riding apparel.
  11. Any wheelie bars must be limited to 18” maximum from the rear tire.
